kProviding Power to Remote Locations
Generation AFRICA is an organisation identifying and empowering outstanding young Africans to take responsibility for their families, communities and nations. It also connects businesses around the world to this dynamic generation.
The project parameters were to provide power to remote commercial and up-market safari lodges in the most cost effective way, to provide a living for local communities.
Load variations at the lodges varying from 5kVA to 100kVA, that can remain at either end of the scale for prolonged periods, made this ideal for synchronising systems.
One generator is used when demand is low, calling other generators into action during high consumption periods, keeping engine stress to a minimum. This approach also enabled scheduled maintenance and engine down-time without interruption to power supply and meant that possible unplanned engine failures did not leave the lodges without electricity, as power could automatically be shifted to the second gen-set.
